The Deets

Okay, so listen up, fam. This whale-watching tour near Vancouver took a hard left into chaos. The Prince of Whales boat was out there doing its thing when, BAM, they hit a humpback whale. No cap, a whole whale.

Apparently, the captain saw the whale last minute and yeeted on the brakes to avoid it. But that sent some passengers flying. Most people were patched up on the boat, but three had to get the full treatment. Sketchy situation all around, TBH.

The whale, though? Legend. It surfaced for some air, then swam off like nothing happened. No visible damage to the whale or the boat. Prince of Whales was quick to let Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard know what was up.

Jackie Hildering from the Marine Education & Research Society (MERS) says it's super important to keep boaters informed about whales. She said hitting a whale can be like hitting an elk on the road, these things happen. She also mentioned that humpbacks might be hanging out in the Salish Sea more in the fall. She’s telling peeps to chill on roasting the boat companies when this happens, and says there’s even a free course boaters can take to avoid this kinda sitch! Also, this is the second whale strike this week, which is sus, no?
