TL:DR

Bruh, a Bryde's whale, which is like, NEVER seen in BC, just washed up dead near Port McNeill. This is the ONLY time this whale has been spotted in BC, ever! And it's the third whale to die in the last couple of weeks. Experts sus it might be from lack of food. Namgis First Nation is stressing about what it means for the ocean. Necropsy incoming to find out what's good (or, like, bad).

The Spill

Okay, so peep this: A dead Bryde's whale was found chilling (not in a good way) on a beach near Port McNeill, B.C. on May 14, 2025. This is HUGE because it's literally the first time anyone's ever seen this type of whale in British Columbia, like ever! No cap!

But wait, it gets worse. This is the THIRD dead whale to wash ashore in B.C. in just two weeks. Apparently, two grey whales also kicked the bucket recently, and experts are saying they might have starved 'cause they couldn't find enough grub in the Arctic. Major L!

The cause of death for this Bryde's whale is still a mystery. There weren't any obvious signs of it being clapped or starving. Marine wildlife experts are on the case, but they're saying there's probably no connection between this whale's death and the grey whales.

The Namgis First Nation is involved too, 'cause a resident found the whale and they performed a blessing ceremony. They're def sketched out about why this whale is so far north and what it means for the health of the ocean. A necropsy (basically an autopsy for animals) is gonna happen to figure out what the heck went wrong. Results might take up to three months, tho.
