TL:DR

Two grey whales in B.C. decided to unalive themselves in less than a week. One near Tofino, the other in Haida Gwaii. The Canadian government is on it, tryna figure out what happened. If you see a whale getting bullied or something, low-key report it!

The Deets

Okay, so, major L for the ocean: two grey whales just yeeted themselves out of existence on the shores of British Columbia. Like, within a week of each other. One was found chilling (or, you know, not) at Long Beach near Tofino on May 6th. The other washed up near Skidegate in Haida Gwaii on May 11th. It's giving tragic vibes.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is all over it. They're teaming up with marine mammal rescue squads, Parks Canada, and the local First Nations to secure the bodies and get some whale autopsies going (they call 'em necropsies, but same diff). They're tryna figure out what made these majestic creatures check out early. Word is, it could take two to three months to get the full report. That's a minute!

Apparently, there are three different squads of grey whales in Canada’s North Pacific Ocean. And two of them? Endangered. So, the DFO is also playing detective to figure out which crew these whales were rolling with. They need to know if this is part of a bigger, sus situation.

Also, PSA: if you see any whale harassment, whale collisions, or a whale looking like it's caught in a net or something, REPORT IT. Call 1-800-465-4336 or hit up the Canadian Coast Guard. Let’s protect our ocean besties, y'all!
