Vancouver Street Fest Turns Tragic: Mental Health System on Blast 🚨💔

Okay, fam, this is heavy. A street festival in Vancouver turned into a whole nightmare when a dude allegedly drove into the crowd, straight up taking 11 lives. 😭 People are hurt bad, too – like, 10 still in the hospital, some clinging on for dear life. Including a whole baby. 🥺

Here's the tea: the suspect, Kai-ji Adam Lo, was out on leave from the hospital and was supposed to be getting help from a mental health team. Apparently, they said he gave "no indication of violence" before this went down. Which, like, makes the whole thing even more messed up, right?

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is NOT having it. He's saying it's "hard to accept" that someone getting mental health care could allegedly do something like this. He's calling out the B.C. government to step up and fix the mental health system, even talking about making treatment mandatory. 👀

The B.C. Premier, David Eby, is also feeling the heat. He said they might launch an independent commission to investigate if the criminal case doesn't give enough answers. Plus, they're gonna get a commission together by June to give event planners the 411 on public safety, so nothing like this happens again. 🙏

The police are calling it an "indiscriminate act of violence," and they're not seeing it as a hate crime. The city's doing its own investigation, too, looking at permits and how they responded to the emergency. They're even speeding up putting up security barriers for events like the Vancouver Marathon. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
