Yo, what is up, besties? So, here's the tea: there's a whole wildfire situation happening on Vancouver Island near Port Alberni. This thing started June 8th and is straight up out of control. Last we heard, it's eating up, like, 15 hectares. BC Wildfire Service is on it, but it's still sus. They're tryna figure out what started it, so far it's a major L.

Meanwhile, over near Powell River, there's another, smaller fire. But that one's under control. Still, stay woke, okay?

The fire near Port Alberni was called in when a glider saw it from the Vancouver Island Soaring Centre around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Helicopters were deployed quick to give it a shot. As of Sunday night, it was about 10 hectares. The BCWS confirmed it's spreading beyond its perimeter.

Here's the real kicker: Since April 1st, we've had 328 fires, and 71% were caused by US. Yikes! That's on you, Vancouver Island! Across BC, 323,428 hectares have burned. The BCWS is begging everyone to be careful outside since the fire danger rating is ranging from mid to high.

They're pulling out all the stopsβ€”18 firefighters, three helicopters, and a response officer are on the scene of the larger fire. The Coastal Fire Centre, which includes Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, is keeping a close eye on things. Stay safe out there, fam!
