Okay, listen up, besties. A huge 8.8 magnitude earthquake straight outta Russia has everyone shook. Like, fr, the earth was not vibing. Because of this, there's a tsunami advisory in effect for the North Coast and Haida Gwaii; the Central Coast and Northeast Vancouver Island; and the West Coast of Vancouver Island and Juan de Fuca Strait. If you're anywhere near those areas, listen up!

So, what does that even mean? Basically, there might be some gnarly waves and strong currents headed our way. The first waves were supposed to hit Langara Island around 10:05 p.m. PDT and Tofino around 11:30 p.m. PDT. Peep this: NOAA (U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) reported that the maximum tsunami height was 6 cm at Langara Island, 27 cm at Winter Harbour, 21 cm at Tofino, and 9 cm at Bamfield. It's giving mild, but better safe than sorry, am I right?

The authorities are saying to stay away from the shore, like, entirely. No swimming, no surfing, no chillin' on the beach trying to get that perfect Insta pic. This ain't the vibe for that, trust. Japan felt the effects too, with tsunamis as high as 40 cm in some spots. Countries around the world were dropping tsunami watches, advisories, and warnings like they're hot. A warning is the most serious thing, but an advisory still means you gotta watch out for those strong currents and potential flooding.

For reference, it seems that it was the largest quake since the one that hit Japan in 2011. The earthquake in Russia had aftershocks, and they were up to magnitude 6.9! The good news is that some people were injured, but no one has died.

This ain't just a BC thing either. Japan, Alaska, Hawaii, North and Central America, and a bunch of Pacific islands were feeling the heat. Honolulu had a full-on tsunami warning, Mexico's navy was on high alert, and even New Zealand was warning about strong currents. Stay safe out there, fam!
