TL:DR

Yo, things took a dark turn at the Lapu Lapu Day block party. A driver plowed into the crowd, and it's a whole mess. Turns out, the alleged driver was on leave under the Mental Health Act. The Premier is thinking about a public inquiry after the investigation. This whole sitch is sus af.

The Drip

Okay, so listen up, fam. The Lapu Lapu Day festival turned into a whole tragedy. A vehicle, allegedly driven by Kai-Ji Adam Lo, drove straight into the crowd. We're talking 11 people, gone. And tons more injured. It's a whole L situation.

But here's where things get even more sus. Apparently, Lo was on "extended leave" under the Mental Health Act. Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is saying they had no clue he was about to pull some crazy stuff. They thought he was following his treatment plan and wasn't a public safety risk. But, like, clearly, something went wrong.

And get this: Lo had an interaction with some other police the day before, but it wasn't considered a crime. Like, what even? Now he's charged with eight counts of second-degree murder, and they're probably gonna throw more charges his way. He was known to the police for other mental health issues.

Premier David Eby is thinking about launching a public inquiry once the police are done investigating. He is also forming an independent commision to create guidlines about how to best hold a public event, and is expeting results by June. Basically, he wants to get all the deets and figure out what went wrong so this never happens again. VCH sent their condolences to everyone affected, especially the Filipino community, and shouted out the first responders and healthcare workers.

A person close to Lo contacted a psychiatric facility on the same day of the attacks.
