Okay, so listen up! Toronto PD just solved a cold case from '96. Dude was found near Lake Shore and Spadina, but no one knew who he was. Fast forward to now, they used some next-level DNA wizardry to find his fam in Quebec. Turns out, no foul play, so that's chill. Case closed, fam!
The Deets
Yo, lemme drop some knowledge on ya. Back in August '96, someone found a body near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Spadina Avenue in Toronto. Mad sus, right? Thing is, the dude had zero ID on him, like he was a ghost or something. The cops tried the usual – missing persons, DNA database – but came up empty. Big L.
Fast forward almost 30 years, and Toronto PD pulled a pro gamer move. They used this thing called investigative genetic genealogy (IGG). Basically, they took the dude's DNA and built a whole family tree. Like some Ancestry.com on steroids. With the green light from the coroner and some pathology peeps, the Toronto Police were able to find a link to family up in Quebec.
Turns out he had relatives with ties to Quebec. After the Toronto Police found the fam, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal hit them up to break the news. And after a DNA match in March, they finally figured out who he was.
And the real kicker? No foul play suspected! So, while it's a W that they finally ID'd him, it's also kinda sad. But hey, at least the mystery is solved. Shoutout to science and the police for cracking this case wide open! It was the 17th cold case in Ontario that was solved using Othram's tech. What a W.
