Okay, so listen up, Toronto fam. Word on the street is our housing situation is a whole mess. Like, fr, a new study just dropped, and it's saying we're paying more for housing than almost anyone else worldwide. That's a major L for our bank accounts, no cap!

So, what's the tea? Apparently, there's a whole bunch of factors making things extra expensive. We're talking high development fees (like, why?!), restrictive planning rules (boomer vibes), and mad demand 'cause everyone and their mom wants to live here. Experts like Frank Clayton are saying it's these fees, rules, and the constant need that are stressing the system, and no one is acting on it.

The guv is tryna step in to look good with GST removal for the first time buyers. The City of Toronto has a program to defer fees for some affordable housing projects, but it has no funds to back it up, and are being delayed as a result.

But here's the real tea, the average home price in the Toronto area has dropped a little. But, homes are not being sold at the same record low.

Dave Wilkes from the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) is throwing out the hard facts that the housing taxes need urgent attention, and there needs to be a change in the HST formula. Jason Mercer from the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board notes a recent improvement in affordability.

Apparently, it goes all the way back to the early 2000s, some serious change in land-use towards environmental protection. The tea is everyone wants some policy changes in order to get affordable housing.
