TL:DR

Lyme disease is a whole PROBLEM in Alberta, watch out for ticks. One fam in Bear Canyon knows all about it after their kid got diagnosed. Also, James Fowler High in Calgary just had a lockdown 'cause of a weapons scare, but it's chill now. Keep your eyes peeled and stay safe, y'all.

Lyme Disease: It's a Vibe Kill

Okay, listen up, besties! There's some sus stuff going on with ticks and Lyme disease in Alberta. Apparently, only about 10% of ticks are the type that carry Lyme disease, but still, that's enough to make you wanna stay inside forever.

For real though, Lyme disease is no joke. One family in Bear Canyon found out the hard way when their 7-year-old daughter got diagnosed in March 2025. They're even trying to raise money to get her some specialized treatment in Mexico. It's wild! They are going through a tough time, so sending good vibes!

How to Not Get Got

So, how do you avoid becoming a Lyme disease statistic? Easy: cover up when you're out in nature. Think long sleeves, tucking your pants into your socks (yeah, it's not a look, but who cares when you're dodging diseases?), and sticking to the trails. Also, check your pets for ticks, 'cause they can bring those little vampires home.

If you do find a tick, yank it out ASAP with some tweezers. And if you're feeling extra, you can even submit it to etick.ca to help track where these things are spreading. Knowledge is power, fam!

Expert Advice

Dr. Daniel Gregson, an infectious disease guru, and Dr. Lindsey Kurach from the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association are both saying the same thing: be careful out there! More ticks are latching on to our pets, so keep an eye on Fido too!

James Fowler High Lockdown: Drama Alert!

In other news, James Fowler High School in Calgary just had a whole lockdown situation on Tuesday. Apparently, someone reported seeing a person with a weapon enter the school, which is obviously a huge yikes.

The Calgary PD rolled up at like, 12:35 p.m. and were like, "Nah, there's no active threat," which is good news. The lockdown was lifted around 1:50 p.m. So, turns out the suspect dipped before the cops even got there.

They're still investigating to see if there even WAS a weapon involved, but for now, everyone's safe. School's back to normal, but still kinda sus, right?
