TL:DR

Fam, this is sus. A Telus 911 outage led to a major L for one family when they couldn't get through, and tragically, someone passed. Telus did an investigation, but they redacted the juicy deets. Now everyone's pressed, tryna figure out what really went down.

The 411

Okay, so boom. This is heavy. Back on March 23, 2025, this dude in Manitoba, Dean Switzer, had a heart attack. Tragic, right? But here's the messed up part: his fam couldn't even call 911 'cause there was a whole Telus outage happening. Like, for real?

So Telus was like, "Aight, bet, we'll investigate." They dropped a report to the CRTC, but get this – they blacked out a bunch of important stuff. Like, what caused the outage? How did they fix it? How many people were affected? All redacted. Sus, right?

Telus kinda threw shade at Bell, Manitoba's 911 network provider, saying the whole thing started on their end. Bell was like, "Nah, hold up, just some equipment reset." But still, someone passed away.

Telus tried to make it right, saying they've updated their 911 call routing. Now, if there's another outage, calls will automatically go to a third-party call center. Also, they offered the Switzer family some corporate award thing.

But the Switzer fam ain't having it. They want answers, a real apology, and assurance this won't happen again. They think Telus's response was a whole joke, so they're thinking about suing. I mean, can you blame them?

Even the government is pressed. Manitoba's Minister of Innovation and New Technology said they were disappointed with the report and wants more clarity from Telus and the feds.
