Sidewalk Days: The Comeback Szn
Okay, besties, listen up! The annual Kinsmen Sidewalk Days Festival in Moose Jaw is comin' in hot on July 3-5, 2025. And word on the street? It's gonna be even more bussin' than usual. Like, we're talking biggest free outdoor event in the whole province, no cap!
The head honcho at Tourism Moose Jaw is calling it: Canadians stayin' local + Americans rollin' up = mega attendance. Get ready for nine blocks of Main Street to be totally packed with vendors, entertainers, food trucks (yasss!), and all the local businesses flexin'. They'll have a Children's Village for the youngins, a Chill Tent to vibe in, and even a stall slinging Moose Jaw merch. Time to rep, fam!
What's poppin'? Duel Zone, live music, buskers doing their thing, and a Battle of the Bands that's gonna be straight fire. Plus, local non-profits and the Saskatchewan Dragoons will be there too. Last year? 22k people showed up. This year? It's gonna be even wilder. They need volunteers, so if you wanna get involved, slide into their DMs.
Pawsitive Vibes Only: Market for the Moose Jaw Humane Society πΎ
For all you animal lovers, there's a craft and tradeshow market this Sunday at the Canadian Brewhouse patio from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's a free, pet-friendly event supporting the Moose Jaw Humane Society. Bring your fur babies!
They'll have vendors selling all sorts of stuff, games to play, and a raffle with some major prizes from local retailers. Plus, fortune telling! The MJHS will be there selling lottery tickets, merch, and other goodies. All the funds raised will help the shelter with general costs, emergency vet bills (because pets deserve the best!), and boarding for animals in need.
Wildfire Check-In: Things Are Low-Key Getting Better π
Okay, so remember those wildfires? Well, the SPSA (aka the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency) says the situation is improvings, like a soft reset. As of Monday at 12:30 p.m., there were 13 active fires. Some are contained, some are not, and they're still assessing the damage.
The Shoe wildfire is still HUGE (like 554,000 hectares, yikes), and the Pisew fire is over 181,000 hectares. Both are still uncontained, which is an L. But the Pelican and Ditch fires? Contained! That's a W.
Over 350 structures and pieces of equipment have been lost, which is a major blow, but they're still figuring out the full extent of the damage. The good news? Residents from 34 communities are starting to head back home after being evacuated. But evacuation orders are still in place for East Trout Lake, Whelan Bay, Creighton/Denare Beach, and some residents of Cumberland House. The SPSA is still supporting 175 evacuees. Mad respect to them.
The fire weather forecast in the south is lookin' better, which is a vibe. Fire bans are still in effect in some areas, so check before you light up that campfire. And fire restrictions are in place at some provincial parks and recreation sites. Stay safe out there, fam!
