Sask. Wildfires: Evacs Gonna Rise, Fam 😭🔥

Okay, listen up, fam. Sask. is dealing with some major 🚩🚩🚩 right now. We're talkin' 16 active wildfires as of May 31, 2025, and 7 of 'em are totally UNCONTAINED. The fire danger is at "extreme" levels across most of the province. Basically, it's a whole mess out here.

Premier Scott Moe said the number of people evacuating is likely gonna increase this week, which is a major L. They had to issue a mandatory evacuation order for the community of Sturgeon Landing, and everyone's being put up at the University of Regina. Talk about a vibe kill.

The province has called a state of emergency, which means they can grab more resources to fight these 🔥. They haven't asked the feds for backup yet, but Moe said they might if things get even more cooked. Right now, they're throwing everything they've got at the fires, including the Red Cross and support from cities and towns.

FYI, fire bans are in effect in a bunch of cities, towns, and provincial parks. And here's a crazy stat: there have been 211 fires in Saskatchewan this year, compared to the usual 128. That's sus af. Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) and other First Nations are tryna find space for evacuees too. Big respect for that 🙌

The feds are saying they're ready to slide in and help if needed, so that's kinda clutch. And for all you fire nerds out there, "contained" means the fire's not gonna spread, "ongoing assessment" means they're still checking it out, "not contained" means it's wildin', and "protecting values" means they're saving important stuff from getting roasted.

They got provincial wildland firefighters, municipal fire departments, contractors with heavy equipment, air tankers, northern community Indigenous firefighters, and helicopters from all over. Plus, that fire break project in Candle Lake is almost done, so that's a W. Stay safe out there, fam!
