The Deets
Okay, so listen up. Saskatchewan is stepping up their game when it comes to protecting people from toxic relationships. They're low-key saying that messing with someone online or trying to control their whole life is just as messed up as physical violence. Like, if you're cyberstalking or being a manipulative mastermind, you're gonna get called out.
What does this mean for the victims? It's a W, for sure. They can now get emergency restraining orders and even break their lease if they're worried about future violence. The gvt basically said that coercive control is when someone's tryna take away your freedom and sense of self. We talkin' financial control, starving you of basic needs, cutting you off from your friends, and straight-up monitoring your every move.
This law is about to drop any minute now, just needs the lieutenant-governor's cosign. It's supposed to hold abusers accountable, which is the bare minimum, tbh. But Sask. ain't stopping there. They know there's still more work to be done to end interpersonal violence. Let's hope they keep cooking!
