Wildfire update: threat bears down on La Ronge, more evacuations. Okay, so Saskatchewan is straight-up dealing with a major crisis rn. Wildfires are raging, La Ronge is basically in the hot zone, and people are being evacuated faster than you can say "climate change." Sh*t's getting real, real fast.

The Tea is Spilling: Sask. Edition
Yo, fam. Let's get straight to it. Saskatchewan is on fire, no cap. We're talking full-blown wildfire apocalypse, and La Ronge is ground zero. The airport and SPSA's dispatch base? Toast. Like, they're gone, reduced to ashes. People are being told to bounce ASAP. Lac La Ronge and Air Ronge? Evacuated. Sucker River, Wadin Bay, English Bay, and Nemeiben Lake? Already dipped. Basically, if you're anywhere near these spots, pack your bags and yeet yourself outta there.
Firefighters are out there doing the most, but even they're struggling. We're talking extreme fire behavior that's making them retreat for their own safety. High winds aren't helping either. It's like the fire gods are throwing a whole-ass party, and nobody's invited... except the flames, obvs.
Here's the breakdown of the biggest fires:
- SHOE Fire: This bad boy is HUGE - 407,000 hectares huge. It's already forced evacuations in Timber Bay and Molanosa, and Secondary Highway 969 is shut down.
- JAYSMITH Fire: Brabant Lake and Highway 102 north are in danger. This fire is not playing games.
- HITCH Fire: Clocking in at 70,000 hectares, it's threatening Highway 2 north and Highway 969. Big yikes.
- PISEW Fire: This one's already messed up Hall Lake and forced a bunch of communities to evacuate. Oh, and it took out the air tanker base in La Ronge. Major L. It's approximately 83,630 hectares (around 20,6654 acres).
- WOLF Fire: It went through Denare Beach and crossed into Manitoba, leaving behind some serious damage.
- PELICAN2 Fire: At 20,000 hectares, this one's relatively chill for now, but still keep an eye on it.
Over 229 wildfires have sparked this year alone, which is way more than the usual vibe. Hundreds of structures have been lost, and over 30 communities are under evacuation orders. Around 15,000 of our fam have been evacuated across the province. Things are NOT looking good.
Premier Scott Moe is trying to keep it 100, acknowledging the severity of the situation and thanking everyone involved. He's also saying that help is on the way from across the nation and the federal government. Manitoba and Alberta are also dealing with similar situations. Also there are plans to re-establish the dispatch base in La Ronge, so that's a W.
If you're evacuating, hit up Highway 2 and register at the Days Inn in Prince Albert. If you need transport, the JRMCC Centre in La Ronge is your spot. Also, you are only allowed to bring one small bag of personal belongings, and absolutely no pets are allowed on the buses or in shelters, so choose wisely.
To make matters worse, there are widespread power outages and cell/phone outages. So basically, it's like going back to the Stone Age, but with fire. Stay safe, stay informed, and let's hope this situation gets under control ASAP.
