Saanich Police Say: There's a Bear... Near UVic? 🐻🚨

Aight, so boom. Saanich police are like, "Yo, there's a bear, and it's been spotted near the University of Victoria on Queenswood Drive, east of UVic and north of Cadboro Bay." Apparently, this bear is low-key a foodie and is tryna get into your garbage, which is a major L for everyone involved.

But fr tho, this isn't the first time. Seems like there have been mad bear and cougar sightings around Saanich this spring and summer, like near Elk Lake, Doncaster Elementary, Uptown, and even PKOLS (Mt. Doug). So, basically, wildlife is having a moment.

The police are saying to keep it 100 and secure your garbage cans. If you don't, you might get fined, which is def not the vibe. And if you see a black bear, don't start buggin'. Stay calm, back away slowly, and hit up the B.C. Conservation Officer Service or the local police. You can also contact the BC Conservation Service if necessary

• Keep calm and back away slowly, talking in a chill voice. No screaming, turning your back, kneeling, or staring. That's sus behavior to a bear.

• Go inside and bring your pets with you. Safety first!
• Watch the bear until it leaves, and make sure it can get away. No trapping the poor thing.
