Saanich look out, there's Cougars On The Loose 🐆😳

Alright, fam, listen up! There's been a whole SITUATION going on in Saanich. We're talking cougars, plural, just casually strolling through the neighborhoods. People low-key spotting them left and right. Like, one minute you're vibing, the next you're face-to-face with a whole predator. Wild. First sighting went down near Uptown on Rowland Avenue; then, a cougar did a whole cross-over from Highway 17 onto the Lochside Trail by Swan Lake Park. The police also saw the cougar near Swan Lake Park. Another one was seen chillin' on Hulford Street.

The police? Yeah, they're buggin', telling everyone to be careful out there. Saanich PD themselves have clocked eyes on these creatures. They're like, "Yo, don't be a hero. If you see one, don't approach, just dial 911 and hit up the BC Conservation Service ASAP." They're still on the hunt, tryna locate the animal and make sure everyone's safe and sound.

Some brainiac associate professor from UVic who studies cougars in the Sooke Hills is saying the key is to minimize wildlife attractants and remember cougars are generally skittish of humans. He's like, "Don't run, be loud, act big, and back away if you see one." You heard it here first, fam!

WildSafeBC is also dropping knowledge bombs, suggesting to back away slowly, keep your eyes on the cougar, don't turn your back, and DEF don't start sprinting. Make yourself look like you're a HUGE threat, and pick up any kids or pets you got with you. If the cougar starts acting aggressive, yell and make yourself look like a hard target. If the worst happens and you get attacked, FIGHT BACK. No cap!
