TL:DR

Pierre Poilievre is throwing shade at the government, saying they're letting foreign workers snatch up jobs that should be going to young Canadians. Youth unemployment is lookin' sus, and Poilievre is tryna make it a whole thing politically. But are the numbers even adding up, or is this just cap?

The Tea β˜•

Okay, so listen up, fam. Pierre Poilievre, the head honcho of the Conservatives, is straight-up accusing the government of letting temporary foreign workers come in and yoink all the good jobs from young Canadians. He's saying the youth unemployment rate is hitting levels we haven't seen since 2010 (minus the whole COVID era), and it's all because of these foreign workers. Big yikes, right?

Poilievre is claiming the government is planning to let in like 82,000 new foreign workers in 2025 through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. But here's where it gets kinda sus: he says they already issued 105,000 visas in the first six months of this year alone, which is way over the target. However, an Immigration department official clapped back, saying that 105,000 number includes renewals, not just fresh faces. Only 33,722 were new arrivals.

And it doesn't end there! Apparently, they also issued 302,000 visas under the International Mobility Program between January and June, which is more than they even planned for the whole year (286,000). The overall goal is to have around 368,000 temporary workers in 2025, but they're planning to cut that down to 211,000 the year after.

The government is fighting back, with a spokeswoman saying the number of foreign workers coming into Canada has actually decreased this year. But Poilievre is sticking to his story, saying this is a chance to show how his approach would be different. He's also pointing out that even with these planned cuts, the numbers are still way higher than what they used to be, which is linked to the housing crisis and affordability issues.

Adding even more fuel to the fire, word on the street is that nearly 1 out of 14 residents in Canada are non-permanent residents, which is a big statistic. It's a whole mess, and everyone's throwing shade.
