The Peace River Wildfire is Wildin'

Okay, so listen up, fam. There's a major wildfire straight trippin' near Kelly Lake in Peace River, B.C. It was chillin' at around 11 square kilometers, but now it's like, BOOM, 46 square kilometers. That's a whole glow-up, but not the good kind.

Because of this chaos, an evacuation order just dropped. If you're vibin' around Kelly Lake or north of Campbell Lake, west of Tent Lake, south of Twin Lakes, or even close to the Alberta border, you gotta head out to Dawson Creek ASAP. No cap.

This fire is clowning near the Pembina Steeprock gas processing facility and Highway 52 E, so it's a big deal. What's even more sus is that the Kiskatinaw River fire, which sparked on Wednesday, is believed to be human-caused. Like, seriously? 🤦‍♀️

Across the province, there are about 60 active wildfires right now, and 34 of them are totally out of control. Apparently, 18% were caused by humans, 77% by lightning, and 5% are just a mystery. Kelly Lake's got around 75 residents, so let's hope everyone stays safe out there. 🙏

Vancouver Seal Pup Rescue: A W for the Day 🥺

On a lighter note, the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society just rescued their first harbour seal pup of the 2025 season, and his name is Zeus! He was chilling on the shore of White Rock, but turns out, he was super premature with that baby fur still on, plus he was hypothermic and hangry. Big yikes.

Some good Samaritan called VAMMR, and they scooped up Zeus and took him to the center for some TLC. They named him Zeus through a donor program, which is kinda cute tbh. This rescue marks the start of the seal pup season, so the word is: if you see a seal pup looking lost or stressed, give the rescue squad a call. Keep your distance; let the pros handle it. Let's keep all the baby seals safe, fam. 💯
