Aight, so Ottawa's been having a moment. Overall crime went up by 5% in 2024. But, like, nobody's hitting up 9-1-1 as much, so that's kinda sus.

The Criminal Code offenses? They're up too. We're talking 50,600 reported offenses, excluding traffic stuff, compared to 48,000 last year. What's wild is violent crimes went up by a tiny bit (1%), linked to more assaults and srsly messed up stuff like offenses causing death. Non-violent crime's also up 6% cuz of more thefts and fraud. Bruh.

The Ottawa PD cleared about 39% of violent crimes and 23% of the non-violent ones. There were 26 homicide victims in Ottawa last year. Shootings are down tho, from 73 in 2023 to 53 in 2024, so that's good news.

The crime rate's sitting at 4,610 offenses per 100,000 residents. Car thefts went down by 20%! But if you're driving a Toyota/Lexus (Rav4, Highlander, RX350, Tundra, Tacoma), Jeep Wrangler, Honda CRV, Land Rover SUV, Ram 1500 truck, or Ford F-series truck, keep your eyes peeled. Those were the most snatched whips.

Youth crime (ages 12-17) actually went down. Less stunt driving and impaired driving charges too. So, some W's were had, but overall, Ottawa's gotta chill with the crime, fr.

Meanwhile, in Sudbury... 💅

In Greater Sudbury, things are looking a lil' better, ngl. Criminal offenses are DOWN by 4%! Violent crime dipped by 10.8%, and property offenses also took a chill pill, going down by 3.8%.

Sexual assaults and other harassment cases decreased, but *other* sexual offenses (like, ew, sexual interference and child luring) went up. Robberies also spiked by 21.7%, and drug-related offenses are way up (60.9%). Stay safe out there, fam.

The police got 64,752 calls for service, but most of them weren't even crime-related. And there were two fewer homicides compared to last year. The police are gonna spill all the tea at a board meeting on Wednesday, so keep your ears open for more!
