TL:DR

Okay, so word on the street is Ontario ain't feeling the current vibe. More than half think the province is heading in the wrong direction, which is kinda sus. Even tho Premier Ford's got a decent approval rating, peeps are stressed about housing prices and other real-world stuff.

The Deets

Alright, fam, let's get into it. A recent poll just dropped, and the tea is PIPING. Turns out, a whole 55% of Ontarians are side-eyeing the direction the province is taking. That's more than half, which is a major L. Only about 33% are feeling optimistic, so, yeah, not a great look.

Now, even though the overall mood is kinda meh, Premier Doug Ford's approval rating is sitting at 45%. Not bad, but still, the vibes are off. It's giving mixed signals, ya know?

Regionally, it's even more complicated. Eastern Ontario is feeling the most positive (44% think things are Gucci), but Southern Ontario, the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), Hamilton/Niagara, and Northern Ontario? Not so much. They're low-key throwing shade at the current state of affairs.

There's also a gender divide. Men are more likely to be optimistic than women (36% vs. 29%). And age-wise, the 35-54 age group is the LEAST likely to think Ontario is thriving, with only 22% feeling good about the direction. Ouch.

Politically speaking, even peeps who usually stan the current government are having doubts. Only 42% of Progressive Conservative voters and Ontario Liberal supporters think the province is on the right track. Meanwhile, a whopping 70% of NDP supporters are like, "Nah, this ain't it."

So, what's got everyone pressed? Housing prices and affordability are HUGE concerns, especially for those trying to adult and buy a place. Healthcare is also a major stressor, especially for the older crowd.

And when it comes to the government's performance, a lot of peeps are NOT feeling their handling of housing. Like, 68% disapprove, which is a massive L.

But here's where it gets even more interesting. Ontarians are generally down with keeping existing infrastructure in good shape, rent freezes in crazy expensive areas, and making sure companies are transparent about price increases (we see you, shrinkflation!).

Despite all the negativity, if an election happened tomorrow, Ford would still snag 44% of the vote. The Ontario Liberals would get 32%, and the NDP would get 13%. So, even though people are complaining, they're not necessarily ready to yeet the current government out of office.

The poll itself surveyed 1,052 Ontarians online, so take it with a grain of salt. But still, it's a pretty clear sign that the vibes are...complicated.
