Ontario Judge Says These Strip Searches Were Big Sus 😬

Alright, listen up, cause this is kinda wild. So, these teen girls were locked up, accused of being involved in the death of a homeless man, right? But here's the tea: they were getting strip-searched, like, a lot. And according to an Ontario judge, that was completely out of pocket.

The judge was basically like, "Nah, fam, this ain't it." These searches were violating their rights under the Charter. Some of these youth detention centers were making these girls go fully nude, which is against the rules. Like, hello? Boundaries, people!

Now, the girls were trying to get their charges dropped, saying their rights were violated. The judge didn't fully agree on that, but she did say the sentences of the girls found guilty would be reduced. So, that’s kinda a W for them, I guess.

One of the girls even pleaded guilty to manslaughter and got sentenced to 15 months of probation. As part of that, she has to go to counselling and can’t chill with her co-accused. A whole group of them were involved, and some pleaded guilty to lesser charges. This case is a whole mess, TBH.

Apparently, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services has standards for these kinds of searches, but some facilities were straight-up ignoring them or misunderstanding them. Like, get it together, y'all! This whole situation is sus, and hopefully, things will change so this doesn't happen again, for real.
