TL:DR
Silverlynn Apartments in North Van just caught fire, like, for real this time. This ain't the first rodeo either. Firefighters pulled peeps out, a few went to the hospital, and a whole lotta seniors are now homeless. The building was already getting fixed up from the last fire, smh. Community's stepping up tho, that's the tea.
The Drip
Okay, so listen up, fam. The Silverlynn Apartments, this seniors' complex in North Van, just went up in smoke. Again. Apparently, the fire started around 9 a.m. on Saturday and was finally under control like, 11 or 12 hours later. Mad respect to the fire crews from all over the North Shore who were putting in WORK.
Here's the messed-up part: this building already had a whole disaster moment a few years back when a fire straight-up leveled the place and someone didn't make it. Now it's happened AGAIN and the building was still under renovation from that first incident. Total bruh moment.
They managed to rescue about 10 people before the fire went full send and blew the roof off. Medics were on the scene, treating five people, and two got yeeted to the hospital but are thankfully doing okay, no cap.
The cause of the fire? Still unknown, which is sus af. But like 30 units in the renovated section are cooked. Even the building next door, Craftsman Estates, got a little toasted. Daaaamn!
But here's the W: the community is coming through. Local businesses are slinging snacks and drinks, and North Shore Emergency Management found temporary spots for 36 residents to crash. A whole reception center was set up and neighborhood peeps are bringing the good vibes and snacks. That's what's up!
The Lowland Senior Citizensβ Housing Society manages the place and Metro Vancouver is watching the air quality. Crews were still on the scene overnight. Hopefully they figure out what's setting off these fires and keep everyone safe, fr fr.
