Okay, so check it: a Bryde's whale just pulled up on a beach near Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. But here's the tea – this ain't no regular whale sighting. These whales are usually chilling way further south, like around Los Angeles. So, for one to show up in BC? That's kinda sus.
The whale was ID'd as a Bryde's whale 'cause it didn't have those "minke mittens" (white bands on its flippers) and had these ridges on its upper jaw. Plus, it was just a baby, only about seven meters long. The DFO (Department of Fisheries and Oceans) rolled up to do a necropsy (that's like, an autopsy for animals), and they're sending samples to labs all over the globe to try and decode what went wrong.
