Homeless But Make It β¨Romanticβ¨
Okay, so get this: Willow Wood and Mathias Korkowski, a whole couple, had to live in a homeless encampment in Penticton for almost a year. They were packing up their stuff after getting the ick to bounce.
They used to be in the food and bev industry, vibing together in shared housing. Then they moved to Penticton, lost their jobs, and boom β homeless life. They been through it, with mad sanitation issues and just the general L of not having a crib.
But, and this is the tea, they said they made it through 'cause of their love for each other. Like, relationship goals or what? They just kept to themselves and didn't mess with the other campers. Now, they gotta figure out where to go next, and they're even thinking about dipping from Penticton entirely. The feels when they said they made it through the winter living in a tent? π
Willow and Mathias are throwing it out there, hoping everyone in Penticton knows most homeless peeps don't want to live like that. Facts.
Scott Campbell, a former homeless person, is backing them up. He said most people in the encampment don't wanna be there but are tapped out of options. Housing is the real solution, period.
Now BC Housing reps were on the scene trying to secure the couple a place to lay their heads.
Measles Trying to Steal Our β¨Glow Upβ¨
In other news, there's a measles scare happening in the Central Okanagan. Five confirmed cases in the Interior Health region, specifically Kelowna, Kamloops, Salmon Arm, and Nelson. It's giving mid!
Word is, you could've been exposed at Dr. Knox Middle School on June 17 or on a flight from Vancouver to Kelowna on June 23. Low-key sketch.
Apparently, like 35% of seven-year-olds in the Okanagan ain't vaccinated against measles. That's sus, considering you need a 95% vaccination rate for herd immunity.
The symptoms? Fever, spots in your mouth, cough, runny nose, ear infections, the whole shebang. And if it gets really bad, it can lead to pneumonia or encephalitis, which can mess you up for life. No cap.
If you think you were exposed, keep an eye out for symptoms until July 8. If you're unvaccinated, preggo, have a weak immune system, or have a baby under one, hit up Interior Health ASAP.
Interior Health is even running a vaccine clinic to catch everyone up. Don't sleep on this, fam. It's about protecting yourself and the whole squad.
