Okay, so boom. There's mad drama in the Middle East right now, with Israel and Iran going at it with airstrikes. And guess what? Some of our BC fam, like, from the Lower Mainland, are straight up stuck over there. It's a whole situation.
Like, we're talking Simon Fraser University (SFU) profs and their families chilling in Iran, tryna catch flights back, but the airspace is closed, so they're stuck. One of them is an engineering professor, and his students are stressing. He's still teaching his online classes, though. 💯 Respect for the hustle.
Peep this: Tel Aviv is also getting bombed. It's not just Iran. Flights are cancelled, and the only way to bounce is to take a road trip to Jordan, Egypt, Armenia, or Turkey. Lowkey sounds like a wild adventure, but not when you're tryna get home, amirite?
But that's not all! Iran and Israel are REALLY going at it. There have been at least 24 casualties. One of the branches of the US Embassy in Tel Aviv got slight damage during the mixup. Israel also said that they destroyed 1/3 of Iran's missile launchers. The IDF said they are striking military targets in Tehran.
Netanyahu also said that the Israeli Air Force controls the skies over Tehran and that their strikes have set Iran's Nuclear Program back years.
Trump said that he hasn't reached out to Iran for peace talks and that he expects nothing less than Iran's complete surrender. Meanwhile Macron said that Trump offered a ceasefire to both sides. But the US State Department updated its Israel travel advisory to Level 4: Do Not Travel.
The IAEA reported that all centrifuges at Iran's enrichment plant in Natanz might be destroyed due to the Israeli strikes and that there might be some chemical or radiological contamination.
