The Deets

Yo, Montreal was straight-up vibing with a massive protest for Gaza. We're talking thousands hitting the streets from Norman-Bethune Square all the way to Place des Montréalaises, tryna get the Canadian government to apply pressure for a ceasefire, and to show disapproval for the current humanitarian crisis.

Like, over 50 organizations jumped in to make this happen. We're talking big names like Oxfam-Québec, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International Canada Francophone, the Quebec Women’s Federation, and Mères au Front. They're all screaming about the food and water shortage in Gaza. Oxfam-Québec even said that the aid is there, but the delivery isn't, which is kinda messed up.

The crowd was chanting for a ceasefire that slaps, an end to land dispossession in the West Bank, and straight up no more forced moves of the people in Gaza. On the other hand, Canada along with other countries issued sanctions to two Israeli Ministers who were allegedly spreading extremist rhetoric.

But wait, there's more tea. So, a bunch of Canadian demonstrators were planning a global march to the Egypt-Gaza border, right? Word is, Egypt straight-up detained over 40 of them and confiscated their passports at a checkpoint in Ismailia. They were tryna raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but Egypt wasn't having it. Some even tried hitting up the Canadian embassy in Cairo, but got ghosted. Now, their plans are on hold, waiting for Egypt to give them the green light, which is looking kinda unlikely rn.

All this comes after the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas and all the casualties in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health. It's a whole situation, fam.
