Okay, so, word on the street is that Montreal pet owners are straight-up struggling. Like, major L situation. All that cute pet content? Behind the scenes is pure financial chaos. We talking pet insurance, meds, grooming...it's a whole budget, and not everyone's vibing with it right now.

The SPCA in Montreal is seeing a HUGE influx of pets being surrendered, that is def a red flag. Since January 2025, the shelter received over 1200 pets, compared to 975 last year, no cap. They're saying it's 'cause vet bills are sky-high, and the price of pet food is like, a bajillion dollars thanks to supply chain stuff and inflation going cray-cray. Landlord restrictions, yikes.

And it's not just doggos, either. Cat overpopulation is still a thing, and not enough cats are getting fixed, which is leading to more animals ending up in shelters. These shelters are often a stressful environment for animals. Some adoption places are trying to find cats new homes, but it’s a band-aid on a bullet wound.
