Major L: Toxic Drug Deaths Still a Problem in BC 💔

Aight, listen up. The BC Coroners Service just dropped some truth bombs. Turns out, a whole 275 people in BC straight up died from toxic drugs in February and March. That's like, 132 in Feb and 143 in March. We're talking around 4-5 people dying *every day*, which is a major L.

The stats? They're kinda rough. Most of the victims (67%) were between 30 and 59, and 76% were dudes. Word is, the death rate from this has been under 160 for like, six months now, so that's a tiny W. But still, too many.

Where's this going down? Mostly in private homes (45%), but also outdoors (20%). And peep this: Most people were smoking the stuff (62%).

Region-wise, Fraser Health had the most deaths (141), then Vancouver Coastal Health (114), and then Island Health (69). Shoutout to Powell River/Sunshine Coast, Cowichan Valley, Greater Nanaimo, Comox Valley, and Greater Campbell River for being mentioned, but not in a good way, sadly.

The main villain in this story? Fentanyl. It was found in 70% of the deaths. Meth was in 50%, fluorofentanyl in 47%, and cocaine in 46%. Basically, the streets are laced, and it's sus af.

Quick check on the trending: March had a 33% decrease YoY and February had a 35% decrease YoY. So slightly good, but still hella bad.

Vancouver tops the list with 97 deaths, followed by Surrey (52) and Victoria (28) during Q1 2025.

Keep in mind this tea since 2016, BC has seen at least 16,784 deaths because of toxic drugs. On Vancouver Island alone, it's 2,856 deaths. Smh.
