The Deets

Okay, so, brace yourselves, this is heavy. Over in North Van near Cates Park, things took a dark turn real quick. Apparently, a speed boat straight-up collided with an inflatable tube being towed. On board that tube were two youngins. This is not a drill.

Tragically, one of the kids, who was only 11, didn't make it. It's a whole sad sitch. The other kid got airlifted to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. Sending all the good energy their way 🙏.

The driver of the speed boat is currently chilling in a jail cell, 'cause the police were quick to arrest him. They're doing a deep dive investigation, trying to piece together what happened. Word is, they're sussing out whether alcohol or excessive speed played a role. Major yikes.

First responders were on the scene faster than you can say "emergency," including paramedics, a helicopter, and the coast guard. Cates Park boat launch is currently shut down while the investigation is ongoing. The RCMP victim services are stepping up to support the families, so hopefully everyone gets all the assistance they need.
