The Deets
Okay, fam, listen up! Peel Regional Police just went OFF, seizing a whopping $50 million in cocaine as part of "Project Pelican." This ain't your average drug bust; this is the BIGGEST combined seizure in Peel history, no cap. They straight-up dismantled a whole criminal network, period.
So, how'd they do it? It all started when they caught wind of a sneaky operation using commercial trucks to smuggle the goods from the U.S. into Canada. CBSA officers at the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor were like, "Hold up, something's sus!" They inspected one of these trucks and BOOM! Found 127 kilos of cocaine, worth a cool $12.7 million on the streets. Major W for border patrol!
But it doesn't stop there. Turns out, that was just the tip of the iceberg. Over the course of the investigation, which started way back in June 2024, they seized a total of 479 kilograms of cocaine. That's like, a mountain of the stuff! They also snagged two loaded semi-automatic handguns, cuz these guys were clearly playing for keeps.
Nine people are now facing a total of 35 charges related to firearms and drugs, after the operation called Project Pelican, and the court case is being held in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. Here's the breakdown:
- Hao Tommy Huynh, 27, Mississauga
- Sajgith Yogendrarajah, 31, Toronto
- Manpreet Singh, 44, Brampton
- Philip Tep, 39, Hamilton
- Arvinder Powar, 29, Brampton
- Karamjit Singh, 36, Caledon
- Gurtej Singh, 36, Caledon
- Sartaj Singh, 27, Cambridge
- Shiv Onkar Singh, 31, Georgetown
This whole operation was a team effort, with Peel Regional Police teaming up with the CBSA, the RCMP, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario. It was also funded by the Ontario Government, Ministry of the Solicitor General. Talk about squad goals! Some of the cocaine was seized at the Ambassador Bridge and the Blue Water Bridge. Six of the arrested have been released on bail, and three are waiting for their hearings.
Moral of the story? Don't even THINK about tryna smuggle drugs through Peel. They will catch you, and it will be a major L. Stay safe out there, fam!
