TL:DR
Okay, so the Royal Canadian Legion in Kirkland Lake just did something pretty fire. They added 27 names of "lost souls" to the cenotaph. These are peeps who died in wars but somehow got missed before. Major respect for giving them the recognition they deserve. The mayor was there too, talking about how important it is for us Gen Z kids to know about this stuff.
The Tea
So, here's the sitch: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 87 in Kirkland Lake was like, "Nah, we gotta fix this." They realized some heroes who served Canada and had ties to Kirkland Lake were MIA from the town's cenotaph. These weren't just any wars either, we're talking World War One, World War Two, the Korean War, and even the Cold War. Like, that's a whole lotta history.
They had a whole ceremony, like a Remembrance Day throwback, to honor these "lost souls" on June 12, 2025. Local author and genealogy guru Bill Glover put in the work, spending like, three years digging up these names. That's some serious dedication.
The Mayor of Kirkland Lake, Stacy Wight, was there too, dropping some knowledge about how important the cenotaph is for teaching us zoomers about the price of freedom. The new plaque with the names is gonna be mounted on the north side of the cenotaph, so it's official. Big ups to Kirkland Lake for making sure these heroes get the respect they deserve, no cap!
