Cold Lake First Nations threw a whole party for National Indigenous Peoples Day! Think Pipe Ceremony, eats on eats, fire performances, and all the good vibes. BATC in North Battleford also joined the wave with BBQs, bouncy castles, and powwow dancing. Community was 100% feeling it!

The Deets

Okay, so boom! Cold Lake First Nations went all out on June 20th for National Indigenous Peoples Day. They had a full-on vibe check at the Casino Dene parking lot. We're talking a Pipe Ceremony to kick things off right, followed by a pancake breakfast that was straight bussin'. And that's just the start, fam!

The day was packed with more fire than a TikTok dance challenge. Vendor market? Check. Face painting? Check. Giveaways for the culture? Double-check! They even had a grand entry featuring the Warrior Society Drum Group and some next-level powwow moves. Notorious Cree showed up and shut it down with a performance that had everyone vibing. And of course, no party is complete without a community round dance. Straight up good energy all around!

Chief Kelsey Jacko (fresh off the re-election, BTW) dropped some knowledge about unity. MLA Scott Cyr gave a shoutout to the late, great Dene artist Alex Janvier, and Mayor Craig Copeland was all about that community partnership with Cold Lake First Nations. It was a whole love fest, no cap.

Meanwhile, in North Battleford, BATC was also throwing down at Library Park. Free BBQ? Bouncy castles for the youngins? Live music and powwow dancing? It was the perfect recipe for a day of celebrating Indigenous culture and building bridges in the community. Toy Tootoosis was feeling the vibes, saying it was all about celebrating and being inclusive. Hannah Oxebin from BATC emphasized the importance of sharing Indigenous knowledge with everyone. It was a major W all around!
