But here's the tea: some economist dude named David Macdonald dropped a report saying that to save all that bread, they might have to slash public service spending by, like, a quarter. PM Mark Carney was all about "increased government efficiency" during the campaign, promising to save billions by 2026. They also said they'd cut taxes, boost the military, and balance the budget. Sounds like a lot of cap, right? Well, Macdonald's report says to make it happen, they're gonna have to cut staffing, which could mean people getting the boot and services going 📉.

Macdonald was on Newstalk 580 CFRA’s The Morning Rush, and he was basically saying that this plan would be a major L for public service. He legit said these could be the "worst spending cuts in modern history." Yikes!

But wait, there's more! The Liberal Party was all like, "We're not cutting public service jobs, we're just capping them!" They were talking about hiring fewer consultants and using AI instead. The report also suggests that military spending would be exempt, so the rest of public service would have to take even bigger hits.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) agrees. They said the gov needs to reduce public service size to follow through with promises. The economist interviewed by CTV suggested the cuts could affect a decent number of public service employees, considering recent staffing levels.

Basically, the government might have to choose between keeping its promises and keeping public services running smoothly. Big yikes all around.
