The Deets
Okay, so listen up. On Wednesday, around 2:15 a.m., shots were fired in Ginoogaming First Nation. When the police pulled up, they found one person had checked out and another was injured. Straight up tragic.
Fast forward to Thursday afternoon, the OPP cuffed two teens from Brampton – Quintin Hooper, who's 18, and a 15-year-old whose name they're keeping on the DL. Both are getting charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder with a firearm. No cap.
The whole area went into panic mode, with the OPP issuing a shelter-in-place order for two days. Schools were closed, and everyone was told to stay inside. It was giving major "end of the world" vibes.
Nishnawbe Aski Nation is saying this whole thing is drug-related and they're re-declaring a state of emergency. Chief Sheri Taylor of Ginoogaming First Nation is begging the feds and Ontario government to slide some resources to Indigenous communities to combat this drug crisis. It’s a whole situation.
The OPP’s north west region crime unit, along with the Anishinabek Police Service, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are all on the case. An autopsy is gonna be done in Toronto. Word is, you can expect to see more cops around Ginoogaming, so don't be sus.
