TL:DR

Saskatoon is feeling the feels heavy. Melissa Duquette's murder still hitting hard. Her mom's out here honoring her. Also, the Red Dress Day Walk went down, raising awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women. Plus, a new spot called Miyo-mahcihoyān Transition House just opened to help folks get their lives back on track. It's a lot, but the community's showing up, fr fr.

The Deets

Okay, so Saskatoon's been dealing with some heavy stuff, and it's time to acknowledge. First up, remember Melissa Duquette? She was only 24 when she was taken from us. Her mom, Crystal Duquette, is straight-up heartbroken but turning that pain into power, honoring her daughter’s memory every chance she gets.

Crystal was supposed to hit up the Red Dress Day Walk, a whole vibe dedicated to remembering missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit+ people but couldn't make it. Faith Bosse, whose own mom Daleen went missing back in '04 (RIP), organized the walk to keep the awareness going and support other families going through it. It's a safe space for sharing stories and keeping those voices alive.

But wait, there's more. Saskatoon just welcomed Miyo-mahcihoyān Transition House (that's Cree for "well-being," FYI). It’s a safe spot for people battling addiction, homelessness, and trauma to find their footing. They offer counseling for addiction and mental health. They help with jobs, too.

Real talk, Nathan Ziegler was homeless for two years but found a lifeline at Miyo-mahcihoyān. And Crystal Venne, who battled addiction for over 30 years, finally found a safe space there, got sober, and started trusting herself again. Major Ws all around!

Peeps are saying it just shows how important community is, how people are low-key stepping up to help each other out. It's a lot, but Saskatoon's showing that even when things are tough, there's always hope and help available. Keep it 💯, fam.
