TL:DR
Yo, so a random plane was all up in the G7's airspace in Kananaskis, Alberta. NORAD sent in the jets, like, "Nah, fam, turn around." Pilot finally listened after some serious warnings. RCMP's on it, tryna figure out what the heck happened. Airspace is still sus 'til Tuesday night, so don't even THINK about flying your drone there.
The Deets
Okay, so check it. During the G7 summit in Kananaskis, some civilian plane straight-up violated the restricted airspace. Like, didn't they get the memo? π€¦ββοΈ
NORAD wasn't playin' games. They scrambled some CF-18 Hornet fighter jets to go intercept. It was like a real-life action movie, fr. They tried to get the pilot's attention, but the pilot wasn't answering. Eventually, NORAD had to hit 'em with the "final warning" level stuff. After all the warnings, the pilot finally landed the plane safely. Phew, crisis averted.
Turns out, there are temporary flight restrictions (NOTAMs) in place 'til Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. around Kananaskis Village and Calgary International Airport. Basically, it's a no-fly zone unless you're on the VIP list. The RCMP is all over it now, investigating what went down and why this pilot thought they could just waltz into restricted airspace. The breach is being taken seriously. π
FYI, the restricted zones CYR 292 and CYR 293 are still in effect! CYR 292 is a 30-nautical-mile zone around Kananaskis, and CYR 293 is a 20-nautical-mile zone around Calgary Airport. Don't get caught slippin'!
