Okay, fam, listen up. Chatham is about to do something real. They're holding a symbolic funeral procession and memorial on May 31st to honor all the women, children, trans women, Two-Spirit, and gender non-conforming people who've been victims of femicide. Femicide is when someone gets killed just 'cause of their gender, and it's usually by dudes they know, like partners or family. Super messed up, right?
The Chatham-Kent Sexual Assault Crisis Centre (CKSACC) is putting this whole thing together. They're trying to raise awareness about this issue, 'cause it's way too real. Since November 2021, like, 177 femicides have been confirmed in Ontario alone. That's wild!
The event's gonna kick off at 11 a.m. at CK Utilities (325 Grand Avenue East) and roll on down to the Chatham courthouse (425 Grand Avenue West). If you're driving, they're asking you to be there by 10 a.m. to get your spot. It's free, so pull up and show some love.
