Okay, so basically, a recent poll says a lot of Canadians are side-eyeing current immigration levels. They're kinda sus of newcomers, and the reasons might surprise you. Plus, some real talk about trust and how it breaks down across different groups. Is this the tea? 👀

The Deets

Alright, fam, so there's this poll, right? And the tea is that 62% of Canadians are feeling like the country is letting in too many immigrants. That's a major jump from previous polls, so something's def hitting different. It's not just about the bag or the housing market either. Some folks are low-key worried about safety and security, which is kinda sus.

Now, here's where it gets a bit messy. Only 42% of Canadians fully trust immigrants. And when it comes to refugees? That number dips to 36%. Ouch. The poll breaks it down even further: if you already think there are too many immigrants, you're even LESS likely to trust refugees. But get this, non-immigrants actually trust refugees MORE than immigrants do. And white people? They're more likely to trust refugees than non-white people are. It's a whole tangled web of feels.

The numbers don't lie, tho. This "too many immigrants" vibe has been lingering since February 2024, and it's been steadily climbing. Young blood (18-34) are a bit more chill about it, but across the board, most age groups are feeling some type of way. Regionally, Atlantic Canada seems to be the most pressed about the whole situation.

Even 57% of immigrants agree that there are too many immigrants, which is kinda wild.

This poll was done by Leger for the Association for Canadian Studies, and they hit up 1,580 Canadian adults online between June 20 and 22. Heads up that this was a non-probability sample survey, so grain of salt and all that.
