Aight, so here's the sitch. Burnaby, BC, is planning to give a formal apology to Chinese-Canadians for how they were treated way back when. We're talking like, over a century ago. Apparently, from 1892 to 1947, the city had all kinds of whack rules that unfairly targeted people of Chinese descent.

We're talking discriminatory bylaws, trade licenses, and even labor regulations that were straight-up bogus. The city admits that these actions caused mad hardships for Chinese settlers and left a lasting mark on their fams. It's a whole L, tbh.

The decision to say "my bad" came after a whole community consultation process. They did surveys, had talks, did focus groups, the whole nine yards. It sounds like they actually put in the work to listen to the community's feels about this. That said, City Councillor was quoted in an interview: "It's important we acknowledge this."

Burnaby's not the first to do this, btw. The feds, the province, and cities like Vancouver and New Westy have already apologized for similar stuff. Burnaby was out here endorsing a resolution to prohibit Asian immigrants from buying land.

But it's not just about saying sorry. Burnaby's also committing to making things better in the future. They wanna highlight Chinese-Canadian history, throw more cultural events, and tear down barriers to make sure everyone feels included. Considering over a third of Burnaby's residents are of Chinese descent, it's a much-needed move, no cap.

The apology event is scheduled for November 15th, so mark your calendars, fam. It's a chance for Burnaby to own up to its past and start fresh. Let's hope they actually follow through with their promises.
