Yo, so this hydrogen balloon dipped from Maine tryna cross the Atlantic, but had a major detour to Canada. Gas leak was the sus culprit. Everyone's chill tho, no cap. Weather was low-key hating, delaying the launch. Turns out, this ain't the first time this balloon's had a Canada moment.

The Deets

Okay, so listen up, fam. This team of pilots, straight outta Presque Isle, Maine, decided to send it with the "Torabhaig Atlantic Explorer," a hydrogen balloon, on a four-day trip across the Atlantic. The goal? Europe, obviously. They were tryna be the first to do it in an open-basket hydrogen balloon, which is kinda iconic.

But, plot twist! This balloon had a whole "nah, I don't think so" moment near Cardross, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Turns out there was a suspected gas leak and they had to land ASAP. Luckily, the three crew members – Bert Padelt, David Cuneo, and Alicia Hempleman-Adams – are all good, so that's a W.

Apparently, the launch was already delayed 'cause the weather was being a total hater. And get this, last year, the same balloon had to make an early landing in Canada too, thanks to some chaotic weather. Talk about déjà vu!

The crew was also collecting air samples for research into microbes for potential medical, biofuel, and agricultural applications. The flight is expected to take approximately four to five days, depending on weather and flight path.

Oh, and the whole thing is sponsored by Torabhaig Distillery in Scotland, hence the name. So, yeah, that's the tea. Hopefully, they'll get their Atlantic crossing on lock next time. Fingers crossed, bestie!
