The Deets
Okay, listen up, fam! B.C. is having a whole *moment* right now. We're talkin' over 110 wildfires blazin', and like, 40+ of 'em are totally out of control. It's not the vibe, y'all.
Word on the street is lightning strikes are the main culprit, especially hitting the south of B.C. Like, mother nature is throwing hands. There were 37 new fire starts in the last 24 hours. It's giving apocalyptic.
Specifically, they are clusters northwest of Whistler and Pemberton, and the northwest Cariboo region. Vancouver Island is kinda vibing, tho. They got one wildfire being held and three under control, so that's a W for them.
Speaking of VI, the Mount Underwood wildfire near Port Alberni is being held at 3,1518 hectares. The Transportation Ministry is hustling to get Bamfield Main Road open again, but it's still closed for now 'cause it's sus. Should open soon, hopefully, for real. Wesley Ridge wildfire near Cameron Lake is under control at 588 hectares. The Nahmint Mountain wildfire is under control at 19.8 hectares. The Manson Creek wildfire is under control at 8.6 hectares. Also, they're trying to figure out what set that off.
But wait, there's more! The BC Wildfire Service is keeping a close eye on things 'cause more lightning is expected in southern B.C., including Vancouver Island. So, yeah, stay woke.
Weather-wise, Environment Canada dropped thunderstorm bulletins and heat warnings for a bunch of areas. The Fraser Canyon and South Thompson are lookin' at daytime highs in the mid-30s. That's hot, literally. But don't get it twisted, fr.
And the air? Not great, tbh. Smoke and haze are all over southern B.C., so Environment Canada had to drop a special air quality statement for the Chilcotin region. Masks might be back in style, just sayin'.
Oh, and peep this: Campfire bans are now in effect in the Kamloops and Cariboo Fire Centre and most of the Coastal fire centre, so no s'mores for a while, sadly.
In short: Wildfires are at a 100! Stay safe, stay hydrated, and maybe manifest some rain. No cap.
